When it comes to sleepers there aren’t many cooler than this 1964 Impala. This Tuxedo Black beauty it equipped with the legendary 409 cubic inch V8 that some might say is the perfect partnership.
1964 was a very busy year for Chevy producing a lot of full-size cars. They produced 1.6 million Biscaynes, Bel Airs and Impalas!
The rear panel of the ’64 models was redesigned but still retained the distinctive three tail lights per side that was only found on impalas.
Other distinctive Impala features included the color-accented bodyside moldings together with impala lettering and emblem on the rear fender.
The Impala ejoyed exclusive trim to mark its graceful style. Foam-cushioned seats finished in lovely decorated fabrics, trimmed with leather-grain vinyl and tufted cloth. Other luxuries included extra-long armrests with finger-tip door releases, back-up lights, parking brake warning light and electric clock.
An amazing 442,292 Impala Sport Coupes were produced. However, only 8,684 Chevrolet’s were fitted with a 409 and of these most were in Super Sport models. This makes this car quite rare.
The 1964 Impala Sport Coupe would have cost $2,678. This came with a 230 Turbo-Thrift 6-cylinder engine and 3-speed manual transmission as standard.
If you wanted a V8 then an additional $108 would get you a 195 horsepower 283 cubic inch Turbo-Fire and $199 for a Powerglide automatic transmission.
However, if you wanted the biggest engine that Chevrolet had on offer – the mighty 409 cubic inch big block then you had three different horsepower options available to you. You got 340 hp for $350, 400 hp for $429 and the mighty 425 hp version with dual quads that this car is equipped with. Add to that another $327 for a 4-speed manual transmission.
