This 1966 Mercury S-55 is beautiful unrestored car that still has its original paint and interior. It’s also well equipped with nearly every factory. option available at the time. It was originally delivered to District Sales Office (DSO) 84 which translates to “Home Office Reserve” which was generally used for “Employee Use” which perhaps goes some way to explaining all the options.
After a two year hiatus the sporty S-55 returned in 1966 for one last two-year run. It replaced the 1965 Park Lane Sports Package option.
The S-55 was only available in two variants; a two-door hardtop and the convertible you see here.

Inside, the bucket seat interior is original – all-vinyl was standard on the convertible. Its condition would appear to reflect the 40,000 miles that is showing on the odometer.

Under the hood sits the Q-code, 428 cubic inch Super Marauder V8 that outputs 345 horsepower. This is paired with a Multi-Drive Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission. A 4-speed manual transmission was also available. Both used shifters mounted on the center console.

Of the 3,585 S-55 cars that Mercury sold during the 1966 model year only 669 were convertibles. Prices started at $3,292 for the hardtop and $3,614 for the convertible.
